Unit 10  : Volume of Liquid

Teaching Activity 2  : Low Achievers Students

Learning Outcomes:
1.      Understand and use the vocabulary related to volume of liquid.
2.      To compare the volume of liquid using non-standard units.
3.      To measure the volume of liquid using non-standard units.

Materials :

1.      Sieve
2.      Cup
3.      Broken container
4.      Straw
5.      Glass
6.      Three similar size cups
7.      Four similar size glasses
8.      Bottle
9.      Jug
10.  Plastic container
11.Worksheets
12.  Manila cards
13.  A set of teapot
14.  Colour pencil

      Vocabulary :
      Empty , Half Full , Full , Less , More

Prosedures : 
1.      Set induction :
Students be quite and watch video clip.

Teacher show some materials and ask student :


 Which material can hold water ?


2.      Introduce  the vocabulary and show the glasses of Full , Half Full and Empty.

3.      Let student read the vocabulary altogether.
4.      Students colour the glasses .

Worksheet ( Appendix 1 )
  • Full                  :   Red
  • Empty             :   Yellow
  • Half Full          :   Blue

5.      Play a games:
Tell students that they are having a mock party now and they have to prepare some drinks.
6.      Divide  the class into groups of  three students and they must work as a team.
7.      Appoint one student in the group to be the recorder.
8.      Teacher demonstrate how to fill up a cupful of tea from a teapot.

9.      Give each group a container that filled with same flavour of drink.

10.  Students fill the drinks into the similar sizes glasses.


11.  Repeat for others containers.
Bottle
 Plastic Container

12.  Students record their findings in statement below:

  • The volume of  lemon juice in the jug    =  (         ) glassful of lemon juice.
  • The volume of  lemon juice in the bottle = (         ) glassful of lemon juice.
  • The volume of  lemon juice in the plastic container = (         ) glassful of lemon juice.


13.  Ask and answer activity:
Questions:
  • The jug holds (  more / less   ) lemon juice than the bottle.
  • The bottle holds (   more / less  ) lemon juice than the jug.
  • The plastic container holds (   more / less  ) lemon juice than the jug.

14.  Students will be rewarded with drinks and some sweets after the activities.


15.  Distribute worksheets to student. ( Appendix 2 and 3 )
